William Ross Drummond
September 14, 1970 - February 7, 2022
William Ross Drummond (“Ross” to his family and friends) died peacefully at home on February 6, 2022, after persevering for nearly 18 months with cancer. He was 51 years old and is survived by his son, Will Drummond, GA; mother, Valerie Jean Wilson, Norcross, GA; father & step-mother, Bill Drummond & Sharon Ladin, Louisville, CO; former spouse and her husband, Tammie and Scott Lunsford, Lawrenceville, GA; step-mother, Pamela Stewart, Fairfax, VA; brother & sister-in-law, Ian & Jennifer Drummond, Hamilton, MA; sister & brother-in-law, Jessica & Jason DeLong, Virginia Beach, VA; niece, Cate Drummond; nephew, David Drummond; and several aunts, uncles, and cousins. A lifelong Georgian, Ross attended Norcross High School and then, following in the footsteps of several family members, Georgia Tech, where he studied architecture and became a master architect. His creativity and passion for design and building structures shone through in his work at several architecture and engineering companies. Ross was a “car guy” — he loved track days, mountain drives, and was always sharing his love of driving with others, from talking shop with pros to teaching newbies how to take corners. Before all else, though, Ross has dedicated all that he is for nearly 17 years to his son, Will. Bike riding, swimming, adventuring, and cars have been among the many things they have shared together. During one of Ross’s early oncology appointments, his physician said that he would need a strong will to help him in the coming journey. “I already have my Will” was his reply. Ross defied the odds after his initial cancer diagnosis in September 2020 — just two days after his 50th birthday — and he turned an initial prognosis of one month to live into a year and a half of life with his son, family, and friends. This included a grand trip to Europe in September 2021 with Will where he picked up his new Porsche 718 Spyder from the factory, drove it on the Nurburgring (it was his second time on that track!), and toured several European cities. In lieu of flowers, Ross’s family encourages you to donate to the organization founded by his sister that he had supported, SAFE Surgery and Anesthesia for Everyone, a nonprofit dedicated to training providers in resource-poor settings to provide access to safe surgical and anesthetic care.
