Marty Martin Obituary - Visitation & Funeral Information

MARTIN – Marty Martin, age 77 of Grayson, passed away on Friday, June 10, 2022. A Funeral Service will be held on Wednesday, June 15, 2022, at 2:00 PM in the Chapel of Tim Stewart Funeral Home in Lawrenceville with Dr. Chris Alexander and Rev. Bill Carroll officiating. Interment will follow at Chestnut Grove Baptist Church Cemetery in Grayson, GA. Marty lived a full life. He was married to his high school sweetheart for 57 years. He and Judy loved to dance, and he was quite accomplished with the Jitter Bug and swing dances. He enjoyed traveling and completed trips to Europe, the Dominican Republic, Lake Tahoe, Vegas, Canada, Mexico, Turks & Caicos Islands, beach trips with family, and many cruises. He especially enjoyed Myrtle Beach where he could play a different golf course every day. During his time in the U.S. Air Force, he was on the Air Force golf team. Prior to the Air Force, he was approached about going Pro in golf, but he chose to serve his country during the Vietnam War. He was a scratch golfer and competed in many tournaments during his life, including several Celebrity Golf Tournaments. He appreciated a good game of blackjack and poker, but held close to his vest his winnings, never bragging, or fully sharing his total wins. In his forties he purchased a lake house on Hartwell and spent many weekends there fishing and relaxing from the worries of work. Watching Georgia Bulldog football was a favorite past time in his later years, he would call/text family to commentate on the game even if they weren’t able to watch. He loved his family, he and Judy had a workshop, he worked, and she loved to shop. He was quick witted and always had a story to tell. He had a sense of humor and could always lighten up a room with a funny story or joke. He was a coach for baseball and softball for his kids’ teams as they grew up. He also supported his grandchildren in their sports (Archery/softball/football) and traveled to many out of state tournaments. He was a blessing to his family as an example of fairness, faith, and honesty. We are all better for having him in our lives and he will be missed by all. Marty was preceded in death by his father William Donald Martin. He is survived by his wife Judy (Powell) Martin, Grayson, GA; daughter, Tina McCullough, Covington, GA; son and daughter-in-law, JR & Stephanie Martin, Snellville, GA; mother, Frances Martin, Grapevine, TX; brother Billy Martin, Punta Gorda, FL; sisters, Donna Welch, Eastabuchie, MS; Dale Van Loan, Hilliard, OH; Teresa Martin Johnston, Grapevine, TX; Lynn Martin Lee, Bay Saint Louis, MS; grandchildren, Kayleigh McCullough, Shane McCullough, Lexie Martin; great grandchild, Cadence McCullough; and several nieces, nephews and other family members.
