Burgess G. Patton

January 10, 1925 - February 1, 2022

Burgess “Pat” Patton, 97, of Snellville, Georgia passed away February 1, 2022. He was the 6th of 9 children born to the late Holt K. and Annie J. Patton in Hayesville, North Carolina on January 10, 1925. He left the family farm after graduating from Hayesville High School in 1942, finding work at the Timken Roller Bearing Company in Canton, Ohio during World War II. After the war, he moved to Harrisburg, Pennsylvania where he worked for the John Sexton Company and was later transferred to Norfolk, Virginia where he met his future wife, Anne Buckner. They were married on July 13, 1957 and remained married for 64 years until his death. In 1963 he moved his family from Norfolk to Atlanta, Georgia where he began work with the H.B. Hunter Company of Norfolk responsible for sales in the southeast. In 1981 he began work at First Baptist Church of Atlanta and worked there until his retirement. Burgess was preceded in death by his parents, Holt and Annie; his brothers, Zeb, Andrew, John, Lawrence, and Richard; sisters, Willette Hooper and Jenny Lou Long. He is survived by his wife, Anne, his son, Jimmy Patton, his daughter, Cindy Still (Dan) and grandchildren; Buck Patton, Kimberly Still, Claire Patton, Brandon Still, Holt Patton, and Nicole Still Sewell (Ben). He is also survived by his sister, Mattie Patton Hall and sisters-in-law, Jane Dailey Patton, Gail Buckner Hupman, and Bertha Villars Buckner. The family will receive friends from 4 – 7 pm on Friday, February 4 at the Tim Stewart Funeral Home in Lawrenceville, Georgia and on Sunday, February 6 from Noon to 2 pm at the Ivie Funeral Home Chapel in Hayesville, North Carolina. Funeral services will be held at Mount Zion Church, Snellville, Georgia on Saturday, February 5 at 2:30 pm and at the Ivie Funeral Home Chapel in Hayesville, North Carolina at 2 pm on Sunday, February 6 with burial immediately after at Union Hill Cemetery in Hayesville, North Carolina.
