It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of John Thiemann, age 58 of Covington, GA, who passed away on Monday, December 29, 2025, after a courageous and hard-fought battle with cancer. The family will hold a private graveside interment ceremony at West Lawn Cemetery in Monroe on Saturday, January 24, 2026. A Celebration of Life for all family and friends will be held on Sunday, January 25, 2026, as a drop in from 12:00-3:00 at Amici’s in Covington. He is survived by his loving wife and best friend, Shelly Thiemann of Covington GA; son, Blake Thiemann of Summerville, SC; daughter, Dana Thiemann of Covington, GA; father, Jerome Thiemann of Winsted, MN; mother-in-law Suzanne Forte of Monroe, GA; brother and sister-in-law, Vernon and Connie Thiemann of Winsted, MN; brother and sister-in-law, Milan and Missy Thiemann of Winsted, MN; brother and sister-in-law, Curtis and Kim Thiemann of Winsted, MN; sister and brother-in-law Shelly and Darrell Pool of Delano, MN; sister-in-law Lynn Garber of Hutchinson, MN; numerous nieces and nephews; many close friends and other family members. He is preceded in death by his mother, Margaret Thiemann and brother Richard Thiemann of Winsted, MN; father-in-law, Richard Forte of Monroe, GA; and brother-in-law David Forte of Statham, GA. John was a native of Winsted, MN and employed at Delta Airlines for 34 years. After serving in the United States Air Force for 5 years, he moved to Atlanta in 1991 to start his career with Delta Airlines as an Aviation Mechanic. This same year he met his future wife of 32 years, Shelly, on a blind date. They were married in 1993 and started their family in 1996 with the birth of their son Blake and in 2000 with the birth of their daughter Dana. John was very dedicated to giving Blake and Dana a wonderful childhood; taking them on fantastic vacations, hosting fun birthday parties for them and all of their friends, attending all of their many different sporting events and plays, volunteering to help those teams by coaching, fundraising, and even building and construction when needed, driving wherever those activities took them, and giving them both the opportunity to do anything they wanted to try. He always did this with patience, encouragement, and a genuine love for their teams and especially his son and daughter. John and Shelly loved to travel. They traveled to many places all over the world and had the most memorable times traveling together. Sometimes with Blake and Dana, sometimes with their friends, but often they just enjoyed each other’s company. John’s beloved past time was riding his motorcycle with his friends. They traveled thousands of miles together all-over North America, seeing some of the most beautiful places in the world and building true friendships that lasted their lifetime. John was a devoted husband, a loving father, a loyal son, a beloved brother, a fun uncle, and a great friend. He will be remembered for his deep love for his family, his friends, his love of travel, motorcycles, construction skills, intelligence, and wanting the best out of life. He battled his cancer diagnosis privately and with a positive attitude. He was determined to beat it, until he couldn’t, and he took that with grace and resolve that he would soon be in Heaven. We take comfort in knowing that he is now fully healed and at peace in the presence of his Savior. John wanted us to remember him in a positive way by having a Celebration of Life after his passing. He wanted to treat his family and friends to food and drinks while they gathered to share stories about him with each other.
