Paul John Pickard

August 14, 1931 - April 4, 2022

Pickard – Chief Master Sergeant Paul J. Pickard U.S.A.F(Ret.), age 90 of Statham, GA, passed away on Monday, April 4, 2022. Paul was born August 14, 1931, in North Adams, MA. He was the son of the late, William F. and Mabel A. Pickard. He was also preceded in death by his loving wife, Evelyn M. Pickard, in 2020; and grandson, Paul John Bohaczyk, in 2014. He is survived by his children, Renee’ Pickard; Susan & Stan Jackson; Paul & Jeannie Pickard; Bill & Teresa Pickard; Lisa & Mike Ray; Alan Pickard; 13 grandchildren; and 14 great grandchildren. Paul was a 1950 graduate of Newark High School, Newark New York and upon graduation entered the U.S.A.F. at the beginning of the Korean War. He continued his military service with the U.S. Air Force Reserves and retired in 1991 with 41 years of active and Reserve service. Paul also retired from BellSouth Telephone Company Headquarters in 1985 as a Staff Manager with 30 years of service. During that time, he received the Telephone Co Presidents Award for saving a man’s life while on military duty and was also awarded the Air Force Meritorious Service Medal for his actions. Paul was personally congratulated by President George W. Bush upon his retirement for his long and dedicated military career. During his career he served on numerous military bases in the United States and overseas in the Aleutian Islands, Germany, Japan, United Kingdom, and United Arab Emirates during Desert Storm. He was a life member of the V.F.W. Post 2883, Newark, New York, an Executive Committee member and President of the American Legion Post 232, Snellville, GA; Chairman of the Veterans Memorial Museum, Lawrenceville, GA, a member of the Air Force Sergeants Assoc., Armed Forces Top Enlisted Assoc., and the Telephone Pioneers of America. The family will receive friends, from 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM, Saturday, April 23, 2022, followed by a memorial service at 3:00 PM in the Lawrenceville Chapel of Tim Stewart Funeral Home, 300 Simonton Road SW, Lawrenceville, Georgia 30046. 770-962-3100.
