Edward Carr

August 6, 1926 - January 4, 2022

Edward Victor Carr, age 95, of Grayson passed away on January 4, 2022. A graveside service will be held at 2:00 PM on Monday, January 10, 2022, at Eternal Hills Memory Gardens: 3700 Stone Mountain Hwy. Snellville, GA 30039. Mr. Carr was the son of the late Edward Victor Carr Sr. and Mary Emma Smith Carr of Danburg, GA. He is preceded in death by his wife, Velva Terressa Carr, stepson James B. Shirley, stepdaughter Janet Shirley Sexton, and step-great-grandchildren Daniel V. Peek II and Anthony D. Garner, Jr. Mr. Carr was raised by his mother and grandparents in Wilkes County, GA. He was trained as a printer in Warner Robins before joining the U.S. Marine Corps during World War II. He served at Parris Island, SC, using his printing skills to produce military maps. After receiving an honorable discharge in 1946, he returned to his beloved Danburg community, where he farmed for three years before setting out for the big city of Atlanta and a job with Stein Printing Co. A twist of fate and a misplaced key connected Mr. Carr with Velva, his beloved wife of 62 years. In the mid-1960s, they relocated their family from East Atlanta to Grayson, where they lived for more than 55 years. Mr. Carr continued his career in the printing trade, working for Lockheed Martin’s printing department for more than 30 years. After retiring in the early 1980s, Mr. Carr struck out on his own, starting several printing companies, including Gwinnett Graphics and A to Z Printing, and working alongside his wife until his second retirement. He enjoyed visiting and reminiscing with friends, traveling around the U.S. (always taking the scenic route), talking politics, maintaining a large garden, renting commercial and residential properties, and touting homeopathic remedies well before it was mainstream. He was deeply proud of his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren and loved hearing about and sharing with others their accomplishments. Survived by daughter and son-in-law Anne Jackson and Jon Marc Jackson, Monroe, and daughter Vicky Horton, Snellville; grandson Brent C. Jackson and fiance Ashley Mays, Smyrna; granddaughters and grandsons-in-law: Melanie and Drew Edwards, Knoxville, and Lindsay and Mark Long, Winder; step-granddaughters: Terressa V. Garner, Snellville, Angela V. Shimp, Grayson, and Deann S. Brower, Madison, AL; step-granddaughter and step-grandson-in-law: Kim and Geoff Greene, Honolulu; great-grandchildren: Landon Long, Lyla Long, Livy Long, and Caleb Edwards; step-great-grandchildren: Eric Brower, Evan Brower, Michael Peek, Savanna Shimp, Rachael Brown, and Jake Greene; and step-great-great-grandchildren Makenzie Peek, Grayson Peek, Adelyn Brown and Adrian Brown. Arrangements by Tim Stewart Funeral Home, 300 Simonton Road SW, Lawrenceville, GA 30046, 770-962-3100. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Wounded Warrior Project (https://www.woundedwarriorproject.org/donate).
