Penny Lee Leonhard was born the only daughter of William H. Sneddon & Marjorie Lenore Sneddon, June 1st, 1951, in Galesburg, IL. She graduated from Galesburg high school in 1969 and pursued a major in Foreign Missions at the Moody Bible Institute in Chicago, IL. Penny was a proud member of the Women's Glee club and 4H (Houghton Hall Husband Hunters). She resigned her position in 1971 to marry fellow school mate, Bill Leonhard.
Penny and Bill graduated from Moody in 1972. That same year they became career members of Wycliffe Bible translators. After jungle training in Mexico, they settled in Ghana, West Africa for 26 years. There they translated the New Testament for the Adele people of Tutukpene. Together with Bill, Penny raised and home-educated seven children. Her ministry of instruction extended beyond the home as she taught piano, discipled fellow missionaries, mentored home educating moms and trained eager learners in the art of baking her world famous cinnamon rolls.”Penny is survived by three brothers: Charles Sneddon of Springfield, MO, Mike Sneddon of Mattoon, IL, and James Sneddon of Schaumburg, IL; and husband of thirty-seven years, Bill Leonhard of Loganville, Ga; her children include: Andrew and Jamie Leonhard of Granada, Spain; Kenneth and Christy Leonhard of Siloam Springs, AR; Michael Leonhard of Seattle, WA; Emma Leonhard of Chicago, IL; Anna, Angela and Kessia Leonhard of the home, and four grandchildren.
A Celebration service will be held at 11:00a.m. on Saturday, February 6th, at First Baptist Church Snellville, 2400 Main St East. Relatives and friends are welcome from 2:00-4:00pm and 6:00-8:00pm on Friday, February 5th, at Tim Stewart Funeral Home, 670 Tom Brewer Road, Loganville, GA 30052 (770) 466-1544 . In lieu of flowers, Penny requested memorial contributions be sent to Eternal Hope in Haiti: P.O. Box 307 Hoschton, GA 30548; www.eternalhopeinhaiti.org.
